Critical Raisin Recall Update: FDA Raises Risk Level To Maximum

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued a high-risk rating for a recall of boxed golden raisins. People are very worried about the recall because of unknown ingredients that could cause major allergic reactions.

The FDA’s warning makes it clear that the recalled product has a “reasonable probability” of making people sick or even killing them if they eat it.

Information About The Call

Sunco & Frenchie LLC, a New Jersey company, pulled two lots of their 10oz Terrafina Golden Raisins on August 26. These raisins were sold in stores in New York. They came in square, clear plastic cases with bright orange labels.

Routine checks by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets showed that the product had sulfites in it, a chemical that wasn’t mentioned on the labels. This led to the recall.

Getting To Know The Risk

Sulfur dioxide and sulfites are often added to golden raisins and other light-colored dried fruits to prevent them from turning dark during drying. Food manufacturers also use sulfites extensively as protection.

Sulfites are naturally found in many foods and drinks, like wine, tomatoes, onions, eggs, garlic, and maple syrup. However, they can be very bad for some people’s health.

For most people, sulfites don’t harm their health. However, people who are allergic or sensitive to them can have major health problems if exposed to them. Sulfites, in particular, can cause asthma problems and, in some cases, anaphylaxis.

Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that can be life-threatening. It can make it hard to breathe and lower blood pressure in a dangerous way because it cuts off blood flow to important organs.

Tips On What To Do If It Happens To You

It is very important that people who are severely allergic or sensitive to sulfite know about this alert. An epinephrine shot, also known as an EpiPen, can help people with anaphylaxis. Epinephrine is a hormone that our bodies make naturally.

It controls blood flow, muscle movements, and other important functions to help fight the dangerous signs of anaphylaxis. Keep your EpiPen with you at all times if you have serious allergies.

No Illnesses Have Been Reported, But Act Quickly

So far, no illnesses have been linked to the returned golden raisins, which is good news. Still, the FDA highly urges people not to eat these raisins and to return them to the store where they were bought to get a full refund. This safety step is necessary to avoid possible health risks from the product’s unlisted sulfites.

In Short

To sum up, Sunco & Frenchie LLC’s decision to recall Terrafina Golden Raisins is a big deal because the raisins might have sulfites that weren’t stated. People allergic to sulfite are at the highest risk, but all customers need to pay attention to the warning and do what they must.

If you bought these raisins, you should return them immediately to get your money back and protect your health; you should know about recalls like this.
