The labels on Orwaiian LLC’s Bday Crunch Mochi Crunch snack in August were incorrect. The company is based in Gresham, Oregon. The recall started on August 21 because the product’s package didn’t clearly state that it contained milk and coconut, which were allergens mentioned in the ingredient list but not in the “contains” statement. People allergic to these chemicals could be in danger because of this mistake.
Seven hundred twenty units of the Bday Crunch Mochi Crunch are being recalled. These units were sent to California, Oregon, Washington, Washington, D.C., and Hawaii. The goods pulled go wrong before July 29, 2025, or even before that.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) marked this recall as a Class II risk as of September 11. According to this classification, exposure to the product might have short-term or medically changeable effects on health, but the chances of major effects are low.
In response, Orwaiian LLC has been working closely with the FDA and the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) to ensure compliance with recall rules. They’ve informed all the affected stores and are now examining how they name things. The company is also hiring judges from inside and outside the company to help them improve their signs so they comply with FDA rules.
The FDA and ODA are warning people who bought this product between May 18, 2023, and July 29, 2024. People who are allergic to or very sensitive to milk and/or coconut are more likely to get sick. If you eat the product, you could have a strong allergic response, like anaphylaxis, which is possibly life-threatening.
Anaphylaxis can show up in many ways, including narrowed airways, a sharp drop in blood pressure, shock, and swelling of the throat and larynx, making breathing impossible. These are some other signs of a serious allergic reaction:
If you can’t handle lactose, drinking milk can also hurt your stomach and cause diarrhea, bloating, gas, and upset stomach. This disease makes it hard for the body to handle lactose, a sugar found in dairy products. Over time, this can also make it harder for the body to absorb calcium and vitamin D.
If a person is allergic to milk or coconut, the Oregon Department of Agriculture tells people who may have bought the affected goods to either throw them away or take them back to where they were bought.
The National Center for Health Statistics says that about 6.2% of people in the U.S. have food allergies. Other main allergens include eggs, fish, shellfish (like crab and shrimp), tree nuts (like coconuts), peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame.
Lactose intolerance is another common condition in which the body can’t break down dairy products properly, which can cause several stomach issues.
If you bought the Bday Crunch Mochi Crunch snack with the information given, you must check your items and follow the recall guidelines to stay safe. Always read food labels to see what allergens are in them, and if you have any bad responses, you should see a doctor.
