We all have those fast food menu items that become our go-to order—especially at McDonald’s, where even the Coca-Cola is superior. So when those restaurants suddenly take your favorite meal off the roster, it can feel like a huge blow. That’s exactly what happened a few years ago when McDonald’s discontinued its bagel breakfast sandwiches.
This caused an uproar among customers—so much so that entire Reddit threads and Facebook groups were created for devotees of the sandwiches, where fans pleaded for the return of their favorite breakfast item.
The bagels did make a return visit to McDonald’s breakfast menus for a limited time after they were discontinued in 2020. The company reintroduced the breakfast sandwiches for a brief period in November of 2022 in select markets in Chicago, New York City, and Washington, D.C.
Fast-forward to now. After being offered on the menu in certain locations, including New Orleans, Georgia, Arkansas, southern California, central Pennsylvania, St. Louis, Nashville, and central New Jersey earlier this year, the bagel breakfast sandwich appears to be spreading its wings once again.
Reports from customers (and an ex-Mickey D’s chef) on social media have shared the news that bagel sandwiches are now more widely available.
However, we couldn’t get official confirmation that they were nationwide (yet!). “Though Bagel Sandwiches are not available nationwide, they are a regional offering and currently available at participating McDonald’s in several markets.
We encourage fans to check their McDonald’s App to see if the Bagel Sandwiches are available at a location near them,” said McDonald’s USA in a statement to Allrecipes.
“Our fans’ love for McDonald’s breakfast runs deep, and we love to see the passion they have for some of their favorite menu items. We’re always listening to their cravings and taking their feedback into account as we make menu decisions,” the statement continued.
So, if you’re still missing out on the morning treat and want to see it at your neighborhood drive-thru, make your voice heard.
Many restaurants have three selections to choose from: bacon, egg, and cheese; sausage, egg, and cheese; and steak, egg, and cheese. The offerings all feature a toasted, buttered bagel with a folded egg, slices of American cheese, and their respective breakfast meats.
And that hearty steak version comes with a bonus ingredient of grilled onions. We don’t know the standard pricing of the order this go-around as it varies by store, but fans are reporting on social media that the steak, egg, and cheese will run you more than the other flavors.
If all this talk of bagel sandwiches has you craving one, keep an eye out for those golden arches and swing by to get your own while they’re available—hopefully, you won’t have to travel too far out of your way. As one social media commenter summed it up, ‘I’ve waited years for this!'”
